These classes are based on the art of Eric Carle. Children will create painted and printed patterned paper for a beetle collage during the first class. In the second class children will focus on the shapes of beetle bodies and wings, as they cut out and put together a beetle.

Children will create 3-D creatures focusing on legs – spiders, grasshoppers, etc. – utilizing clothespins, pipe cleaners, electrical wire, and other media.

Children will create folded segments (simple origami) with patterned origami paper and put them together in a pattern to create a caterpillar.

Children will use a variety of methods to create symmetrical butterfly wings. Methods include creating a one side pattern which will transfer and creating symmetry free hand.
