Family Holiday Workshop

December 6, 2009

The Marianna Kistler Beach Museum of Art at Kansas State University will help children and their families celebrate winter with its annual Family Holiday Workshop 2- 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6, at the museum.

During this workshop children will be able to create and decorate Christmas cards, ornaments, gingerbread figures, and anything else they come up with.

The Student Friends of the Beach Museum is sponsoring the event.

“The kids can go crazy because there are tubs and tubs of stickers, decorative paper, stencils, sequins, beads and pipe cleaners. You name it, we have it,” said Jenna Gentzler, a junior in fine arts and psychology, Blair, Neb., and president of the Student Friends of the Beach Museum. “They can make whatever and as much as they want.”

Children will also be able to make a Christmas butterfly ornament inspired by the “Robert Lang: Insect Origami” exhibition.

Festive snacks and drinks also will be provided. The cost is $5 per child and half price for Beach Buddies. Reservations are not required for this event but all children must be accompanied by an adult.

Children ages 3-12 can become a Beach Buddy for a membership fee of $25 per year. Children will receive a special gift along with a membership certificate, youth newsletters with games and other art activities, 50 percent discount on holiday and Valentines family workshops, special youth receptions for selected exhibitions and a holiday and birthday card from the museum.
