Young Curators: $15

Work as a team Monday afternoons in June (2, 9, 16, 23, 2014) from 1-4 p.m. to create an exhibition using works on display in the Museum's permanent collection galleries. Learn about museum careers, choose a theme and art, write opening text and labels for the exhibition, create a self-guided tour, and develop educational art activities for an open house event. This program is for youth who have completed fifth grade and above. Call 785.532.7718 or email klwalk@k-state.edu for registration by May 15, 2014. 

Young Artists & Observers 

July 8, 2013 1:30 - 4 p.m. (ages 9-12) | July 15, 2013 1:30 - 4 p.m. (ages 6-12) | July 22, 2013 9:30 a.m. - Noon (ages 6-8) 

  • Tour the Young Curators exhibition and learn about the featured works of art
  • Receive a behind-the-scenes tour
  • Create their own art based on their favorite piece in the Young Curator's exhibition
  • Write an artist's statement

Young Artists will be able to choose from "professional" art materials such as acrylic, cray pas, pastel, prisma colors, and linoleum block prints. The work for display will be matted.

Young Observers - $15 (Meets at K-State Gardens) | July 8,2013 9:30 a.m. - Noon (ages 6-12) | July 15, 2013 9:30 a.m. - Noon (ages 6-12)

  • Tour the K-State Gardens and learn about native plants
  • Tour the K-State Insect Zoo
  • Keep a journal with their observations
  • Create drawings based on what they see

Students will use artist and prisma color pencils to create drawings of plants and insects. One work will be chosen for display and matted. Journals will also be displayed.

Young Writers - $15 | July 22, 2013 1:30 - 3:30 p.m. (ages 10-16)

  • Tour the Young Curators exhibition and learn about the featured works of art
  • Receive a behind-the-scenes tour
  • Participate in visual/language arts exercises
  • Create written responses to the art in the Young Curators exhibition

Students will create short stories, poetry, or creative non-fiction in response to the art and will have the option to illustrate/illuminate their writing with pencil or pen drawings. One work will be chosen for display and will be matted.
